Message from the Dean

As Dean of Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of
the Pacific and College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest, I want
to welcome you to The Future of Medicine, the first magazine published exclusively
for our college.

COMP and COMP-Northwest students represent the best and the brightest of medical
students and represent the future of medicine in a palpable way. They are scientists and
researchers, poets and musicians, magicians and athletes, and come from all corners of
the world. They are committed to improving the quality of life for their future patients.
We remain committed to fostering a new generation of osteopathic physicians who serve
their patients with purpose, passion, and pride. The faculty and staff uphold a student-
centered, interprofessional approach to learning with a meaningful emphasis on
humanistic health care. We strive to model the way for our students and alumni by
being leaders in our profession, our communities, and in the realm of academia.

Our faculty members represent the top of their respective fields and are dedicated to
helping our students become the best possible physicians. Our innovative educational
design allows us to provide a student experience that rivals any in the country.

Our students thrive in a culture of patient-focused care because they practice on a
foundation of professionalism, benevolence, and respect. Today’s advanced technology
and the ever-growing body of medical knowledge continue to move COMP and
COMP-Northwest into a new era of medicine. A vigorous desire to heal, combined with
their strong osteopathic medical education, allows our students to stand apart from the
rest. They are regularly reminded that at the end of every action, every thought, every
deed, there is a patient. They understand that while they practice the art of medicine
with their heads, they must never forget to use their hearts.

We invite you to discover more about the students, faculty, staff and supporters of COMP
and COMP-Northwest as you look through the pages of this magazine, and look forward
to getting to know you better by your responses, as together we journey toward the
future of medicine.
Warmest regards,

Paula M. Crone, DO
