Message from the Dean
Why WesternU! A strange title for RxBound, particularly since most of our
readers have already figured it out. The landscape for pharmacy education
has changed dramatically over the past two decades. In California we have
grown from four schools of pharmacy in 1996 to twelve schools in 2015.
There has been considerable debate about the merit of having so many
schools and the fierce competition this has created for training sites and
jobs. Ultimately the market will determine how many schools the State of
California can support. One of our immediate challenges is the finite
number of pharmacy applicants across the nation relative to the growing
number of pharmacy classroom seats that need to be filled. We have
chosen to highlight the reasons why WesternU is a preferred destination
for pharmacy education in California. In this issue, we provide clear
evidence that should resonate with our most discriminating and highly
qualified applicants. WesternU provides a distinct educational experience
that is unlike any other in the nation. Why WesternU? or Why WesternU!
I see it as a bold statement of declaration and after you have read this
issue, I hope you agree.
