President’s Message

“Adapting” seems an especially suitable theme for the 2018 edition of Humanism in the Health Sciences.
The ability of all living things to adapt and thrive as circumstances shift and flux is as necessary, indeed
essential, as change itself.

The physical, emotional, and spiritual adaptations witnessed or made by the authors of the stories, poems
and photos in these pages are rooted in personal qualities found throughout the Western University of
Health Sciences family. Compassion, concern, and caring resonate in the emotional, spiritual and
professional journeys taken by each author, offering abundant proof of the human bond we all share and
our ethos of inclusive scientific humanism.
