The College of Osteopathic Medicine
of the Pacific-Northwest Inaugural Class

By Luke Rauch

Many of the graduates from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-
Northwest’s inaugural class are finishing their residency programs and settling into their roles as physicians. When
the choice to begin an osteopathic medical school in Lebanon, Oregon was made 10 years ago, it was hoped that
many of the students would choose to base
their new careers in the Pacific Northwest.
Now, in 2018, many are doing just that.
From the Northwest, Some will be joining the local Samaritan
Health Services system, and others are
already signing up as preceptors to help
train third-and fourth-year WesternU
In the Northwest, medical students. WesternU COMP-
Northwest is proud to share reflections
from students in the inaugural class.
For the Northwest. Jeff Bulkley, DO '15, internal medicine
resident at Good Samaritan Regional
Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon
is heading to Mosaic Medical in Bend,
Oregon as an outpatient internist.
I still remember my interview day for
COMP-Northwest, held at Samaritan
Lebanon Community Hospital across the
street due to the medical school still being
under construction. I will never forget the
warm welcome and promise of an amazing
education ahead. As I reflect back upon Jeff Bulkley, DO '15
opening my acceptance letter and getting a
phone call from Dr. Pham congratulating
me, I know there was a part of me with a
little reservation. I had to have faith knowing that my future depended on a school not yet seen. Now, I look back
on my amazing journey, on which I met incredible people who are lifelong friends. It was an honor to have been
invited back as the alumni speaker at the 2015 White Coat Ceremony, speaking on behalf of the school and
realizing the high-quality education I received. I am astounded at what COMP-Northwest has become, both as
a college of medicine and as a part of the community. I am proud to be an alumni and part of the inaugural class
at COMP-Northwest.
