Sumit Desai, PharmD, and his cousin Bhavesh Desai, PharmD, JD, have
distinguished themselves as the very first College of Pharmacy alumni to establish a
fully-funded scholarship endowment. This is not, however, the first time that Sumit
and Bhavesh have provided support for the College. In 2010, the McKesson
Corporation presented the “Pharmacy of the Year Award” to Sumit and Bhavesh’s
Yucaipa Valley Pharmacy and an award of $2,500 for their leadership in the
pharmacy industry. Sumit and Bhavesh donated that $2,500 award to WesternU. In
addition, in May 2011, Dr. Bhavesh Desai was the alumni speaker at the College of
Pharmacy Commencement ceremony, where he encouraged the graduating class to
“...become active alumni of the College of Pharmacy and the University.” Sumit
and Bhavesh are also very active in the Indian Pharmacists Association, for which
Bhavesh is a past president.
The Desais currently own two successful and growing pharmacies, the Guardian Alumni Family News
Health Mart Pharmacy in San Bernardino and the California Specialty Pharmacy in Weddings
Whittier. The College of Pharmacy is truly grateful for the generosity of this gift and
for the commitment it signifies. Sumit and Bhavesh have reset the bar for their Nancy Ngo, PharmD ’13,
fellow College of Pharmacy alumni. and Nick Cao
