NCPA has launched an event series called “Dinner with a
Pharmacist” to provide an opportunity to students to connect
with local independent pharmacists. NCPA has recruited local
independent pharmacy owners to have dinner with NCPA
members. An intimate dinner setting provides a place where
students and pharmacists can exchange conversation freely.
Members are encouraged to ask questions about independent
pharmacy ownership and the pharmacists share their personal
stories about their careers. We’ve been getting positive
feedback both from members and pharmacists. NCPA plans on
recruiting more pharmacists to host more dinner events to
continue to provide guidance to our members.

Kappa Psi
By Lisa Pham, PharmD ’17
This year, the Brothers of Kappa Psi were given the
opportunity to partner with St. Baldrick’s Foundation in an
effort to both raise awareness and fundraise for research for
pediatric cancer. St. Baldrick’s traditional events of shaving
heads for pediatric cancer awareness was foregone in place of
a push-up contest for our event. Titled, “St. Baldrick’s Push-
Up Against Cancer” held during WesternU’s Club
Extravaganza, participants were sponsored to complete as
many push-ups as they could. The event garnered
participation from the College of Pharmacy as well as other
students and faculty of WesternU. This was a unique event for
us on campus in that we were able to collaborate
interprofessionally outside of IPE. Collectively, we were able
to raise about $500 within 30 minutes thanks to the
participants, their sponsors, and fellow donors.
Coming up on our agenda later this summer is a uniquely
exciting philanthropic event introduced to us by our
Professional Chair, Marvin Peredo. For this event, called “Life
Rolls On,” we will be helping paraplegics into the ocean and
help them be able to surf again, or try it for the first time in
their life. More to come on this event and more in the next
issue of RxBound!
