CAPSLEAD

This year’s CAPSLEAD team traveled to San Francisco, CA in
March to engage in a weekend of leadership development
alongside the CAPSLEAD teams from other California
pharmacy schools. Prior to the conference, each student was
required to take a Strengthsfinder test to determine their top 5
strengths. Rather than addressing weaknesses and trying to
improve upon them, the conference focused on examining
one’s own strengths and developing a leadership style based
on these. Each team was able to capitalize on this knowledge
and assess the best leadership roles for each of the members in
the upcoming months during the research project.
WesternU was fortunate to get third pick for topic selection in
the lottery. Our team selected the following topic, “Are
California Pharmacy Schools preparing graduates to be
Advanced Practice Pharmacists? How do we get there?” We
found the question interesting because of the clinically
expanding role of pharmacists and the opening of several new
pharmacy schools in California. Moreover, we wanted to
explore what schools were presently doing and plan to do to
address these new opportunities for pharmacists. We are
excited to share our findings later this year so stay tuned and
find our poster at an upcoming conference!
Phi Lambda Sigma
Gamma Nu Chapter

The Gamma Nu chapter of PLS can sum up spring with one
word: “GROWTH!” In March, PLS members JR Flores,
Kamran Mahramzadeh, and Mona Niki Marzban attended
the House of Delegates meeting in Orlando to represent our
chapter’s participation in the Charles Thomas Leadership
Challenge. In April, we hosted prospective students from
CSUN, CSUSB, and Cal Poly Pomona to learn about the great
aspects of being part of the WesternU family! The Pre-
Pharmacy Society Mixer was a delight and we received such
positive feedback from the prospective students. Along with
learning about our unique curriculum and outstanding
support from faculty and staff at WesternU, we encouraged
attendees to be leaders starting now!
