It is no surprise that health professions school can be a
challenging and at times overwhelming endeavor. In
between the studying, board exam preparation, clinical
rotations, and the general unpredictability of life, it is
bound to be chaotic. If I were to choose one word to
describe the medical school experience, it would be
“Adaptation.” Change, whether it is positive or negative,
is an inevitable aspect of life. Our environment and
circumstances are constantly changing. The only constant
in our lives is our ability to adapt and persevere in the
face of that change. As future health care professionals,
we will have to rely on our ability to adapt throughout
our lives and our careers. I hope that this issue, with its
diverse selection of WesternU creativity, will inspire us to
embrace change and always be willing to adapt to life’s
many challenges. As we read through this issue of
Humanism magazine, I hope that we become inspired to
embrace change and use the chance to adapt as an
opportunity for growth.
