Information for Authors and Artists
Humanism in the Health Sciences, an award-winning creative arts and literary journal
of Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU), accepts the work of students,
alumni, administration, faculty and staff of WesternU. Humanism is edited by
WesternU students and staff. It is published annually and distributed free of charge to
interested individuals and institutions worldwide.
Humanism publishes essays, short stories, artwork, photography, poetry, and letters.
All submissions are reviewed by the editorial staff and should be relevant to the
theme of the journal, health care practice, or WesternU. Articles and artwork
accepted for publication become the property of Humanism and Western University
of Health Sciences.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
All text should be submitted as a Microsoft Word file or plain text. Photographs, illustrations and artwork should be
submitted separately and not embedded into a Word, PowerPoint or text document. We strongly recommend that you include
caption information about your photos. We can accept Adobe Photoshop (PSD), Adobe Illustrator (AI), EPS, JPEG or TIF format files.
We cannot accept GIF or PNG files as these are not suitable for print. The minimum size for all images is approximately 3” x 5”
at 300 ppi resolution; if the image file size is less than 500 kb, it will be too small for print.
