New Faculty

Dr. Garavalia joined the College on April 1, 2015 as Associate Dean for Assessment. An
educational psychologist, she has more than 20 years of program evaluation, compliance,
curricular review, and assessment experience. Her responsibilities include utilizing evidence
driven data in continuous quality improvement to optimize program structure and outcomes.
She will also play a significant role in strategic planning, engaging students in the evaluation
and development of academic programs, and fostering a culture of assessment.
Dr. Garavalia earned her doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of South
Carolina. Prior to joining the College, she served on the University of Missouri-Kansas City
Psychology department faculty and, later, on the administrative team in the School of
Pharmacy as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Her research focuses on self-regulation of
behaviors, cognitions and motivation as applied to adult learners’ academic achievement and
heart patients’ adherence to prescribed medications. Her research has been funded by
Linda S. Garavalia, PhD, MA numerous grants and contracts from federal, industry, and foundation sources. In addition,
Professor she is an award-winning teacher with over twenty-five years of experience teaching at the
Associate Dean for Assessment college level including undergraduate and graduate courses in learning theory, psychometrics,
classroom assessment, and research methodology. Aside from work, Dr. Garavalia enjoys
tennis, traveling, and living here in Southern California.

Lyna Luo • Appointed as Editor-in-Chief of California Pharmacist, a
peer reviewed journal of the California Pharmacist
• Received funding from Extreme Science and Engineering Association.

Jeffrey Wang • PGY1 Residency program received a three-year
accreditation.
• Received an intramural grant for his project on
“Exploration of Using Silkworm Larva as an Animal Model Cynthia Jackevicius
