Supporting Independent Pharmacy
Dr. Brian Garner Scholarship Endowment
By Bill Burrows, Director of Development
This past December, 2014, Dr. Brian Garner, owner and operator of Hendricks
Pharmacy in Claremont, California, for over 12 years, made his final pledge
payment to fulfill a $25,000 scholarship endowment, The Dr. Brian Garner
Scholarship Endowment. Dr. Garner established his endowment to provide tuition
support for outstanding WesternU student pharmacists interested in pursuing a
career in independent pharmacy ownership. When asked what motivated him to
make his gift to the WesternU College of Pharmacy, Dr. Garner said, “I wanted to
give back, in a permanent way, for all of the great rotation students I’ve worked
with over the years.”
Dr. Garner was also happy to notify us that he has completed an expansion and full
renovation of Hendricks Pharmacy, adding an additional 1600 square feet of retail
floor space and more than quadrupling the pharmacy counter as well. “We have
added automation in the form of our new prescription filling unit, which will make
our prescription fills faster and more accurate,” Dr. Garner said. The expanded retail
space now includes a wide range of greeting cards, a new floral service, over 150
types of hard candy and salt water taffy, a larger medical equipment section, and an
array of Claremont souvenirs and gift items. “The best part about this expansion is
having the space to be able to offer more services and convenience to our customers.” Top: Hendricks Pharmacy staff and Dr. Brian Garner

The College of Pharmacy is thankful for the tireless contributions that Dr. Garner has
made to the field of pharmacy, to his community, and to all of the student
pharmacists who have been impacted by his mentorship and philanthropy.
