Our annual Leadership Retreat aimed to inspire students to
take on leadership roles while in school so that they will be
take an active part in the development of the profession as
students as well as graduates. The keynote speaker for this
year’s Leadership Retreat, Dr. Mary Euler, Executive Director
of Phi Lambda Sigma National, emphasized the importance of
emotional intelligence as it pertains to being effective leaders.
Students also engaged in team building exercises throughout
the day. Lastly, PLS alumni, Drs. Corey Edwards and Ranjit
Sidhu, led workshops on professional etiquette and how to
format strong curriculum vitae. With the guidance of the
alumni, students gained valuable knowledge that will
ultimately help them progress through pharmacy school.

Kappa Psi
Epsilon Gamma Chapter
By Geminesse Barraquias, PharmD ’18
On October 16, students crowded the basketball courts to
cheer on Kappa Psi faculty members to raise money towards St.
Baldrick’s Foundation’s childhood cancer research. However,
the basketball game came with a twist. Each faculty member
donned costume accessories based on the amount donated
from College of Pharmacy students. A special thanks to the
participants Dr. Gupta, Dr. Chan, Dr. Nazarian,
Dr. Andresen, Dr. Khasawneh, Dr. Davies, Dr. Hata, and
Dr. Hsu. A $655 donation was made through the support of
these butterfly-winged, gold chained, and bearded professors.
Alongside maintaining our bimonthly student run Riverside
Free Clinic, Kappa Psi continues to improve the Let’s Move
Outreach. On October 16 and November 18, we visited
Lincoln Elementary and Lopez Elementary to educate students
about the flu, staying active, and healthy diets. The children
drew their typical dinner and compared it to what a healthy
plate should look like, opening up discussion on what to do to
remain healthy. On November 8-10, Kappa Psi headed to the
Pacific West Province in Phoenix, Arizona. With over a dozen
Brothers in attendance, our chapter was honored to receive the
Professionalism Award, the Traveller’s Award, and the Chapter
Report Award.
