As an immigrant who traveled from Vietnam to Hong Kong, and then to the United States, I know firsthand what
it means to adapt. As a daughter of immigrant parents who had to flee their home country to build an entirely new
life in America, I know well what it means to adapt. Adapting is about being open to change. It is about knowing
when that change needs to happen, and how to harness that change to thrive in a seemingly new environment. I
graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Literary Journalism. Making the decision to
attend the College of Pharmacy at WesternU six years later was one of the biggest changes in my life — one that
required me to adapt to an entirely new way of learning and studying. Being able to adapt will allow me to make a
difference in the community — to help others adapt to their health care needs so that they can thrive. After all, that is
what makes us human.
