Last year, an unforeseen event caused major water damage to the Patient Care Center, which led to a nearly half-year
recovery process. The Eye Care Institute was especially affected, and I can recall the days when our Low Vision Clinic
was relocated, sharing limited available space with the Medical Center on the second floor. So many were involved in
the uncomfortable yet necessary adaptation process: doctors, interns, staff, patients. However, I remember the
flexibility and helpful attitude of everyone in the building, making the recovery so much smoother. In retrospect, it is
times like these that give me hope and assurance that no matter what life throws at us and whatever situation we may
be in, it is our accepting attitude and our positive outlook that allows us to press on toward our goal, whether it be to
provide high-quality patient care or to pass boards. I hope that this year’s issue and theme of adaptation can be an
encouragement to all of us, wherever we stand in our journey in life.
