Unremarkable
Poem and artwork by Nadia Afkhami, Optometry student
Unremarkable. like a new bud
They dare call you, reaching for the sunlight.
unremarkable. You wait for the world
But you are not. to teach you
You stretch out about all things beautiful each morning
slighting reaching yourself as the gentle rays
closer to the world sparkle through the windows
then they dare tell you peeping between the blinds.
you’re supposed to. You are remarkable.
You are an ocean of dark bands You capture my world
interwoven together between each blink.
to create something And for as long
that every wave as each nerve of your being
pushing up against the desperate shore stands longing for more
is jealous of. you will not be dare called
You open yourself unremarkable.
