MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

College of Allied

Health Professions

In 2010, a committee composed of faculty and deans from the
Colleges of Allied Health Professions, Optometry, and Podiatric
Medicine was formed to create a plan for an Interprofessional
Clinical Research Center. The committee, led by Dr. Donna
Redman-Bentley, CAHP’s Associate Dean for Research, worked on
the project for two years. The plan set the groundwork for a
strategic initiative later submitted as part of the University
strategic planning process. The proposed center added
translational research and was renamed the Center for Clinical
and Translational Research.

The strategic initiative followed the mission, vision, and goals of
the original strategic plan. The vision of this new Center is “to be
recognized nationally as a center for innovation and leadership in
interprofessional research and the advancement of collaborative
clinical practice.” The Center will provide services to enhance and
facilitate high-quality clinical and translational research. Services
Stephanie D. Bowlin, PA, EdD will be available to faculty researchers on both the Pomona and
Lebanon campuses.

Along with creating an interprofessional approach to clinical
research, the Center will establish community partnerships for
collaborative projects. The partners will comprise clinical settings,
community programs, schools, and various health-related
organizations. Several collaborative projects are already underway
and include multiple programs.

Another goal is to increase extramural funding to support
research. The Center will provide visibility for the various types of
research being conducted, and will demonstrate WesternU’s
commitment to clinical and translational research.
