MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

College of

Veterinary Medicine

We have had a busy and productive year since our last
opportunity to address you. We’ve been investigating new ways
of delivering health care services for our clients, developing new
courses and rotations for our students and colleagues,
challenging ourselves to determine our effectiveness in
improving the quality of life for our patients, and acquiring new
partners to assist us in achieving our goals and meeting our
mission of being socially relevant.

Our accomplishments of the past year are peppered with stories
of faculty contributions in a wide variety of areas, including
exotic medicine, panda reproduction, ecology of birds of prey,
new techniques in teaching, stem cell research, canine and
equine lameness, curricular mapping, and development
activities in shelter medicine.

Phillip Nelson, DVM, PhD We are extremely proud of our entire award-winning faculty,
staff, students and alumni in various endeavors. We wish to
acknowledge and congratulate the class of 2015 for achieving a
pass rate of 94% on this year’s National American Veterinary
Licensing Examination (NAVLE). My congratulations also extend
to the faculty, staff, and college administration for their
continuous contributions to assure the delivery of a high-quality
curriculum.

We are looking forward to the challenges of the future. We will
be rebranding our pet hospital on campus; our applicant pool
remains strong, and the Class of 2019 has been invited; and we
continue to address the critical strategic priorities identified in
the College’s Strategic Plan.

Yes, 2014-15 was great. Next year promises to be just as busy --
and rewarding!
