MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
College of
Graduate Nursing
Since our last publication, the College of Graduate Nursing has
been preparing for its Board of Registered Nursing site visit, which
will occur in March 2015. This work has spearheaded many
projects, as well as an in-depth review of our programs. It has been
a productive time to revisit our vison and mission, as well as our
curricula.
Both master’s and doctoral programs have completed curricular
mapping to assure that all accrediting and professional standards
are introduced, reinforced and mastered to meet college and
university outcomes. While quality improvement is hard-wired
into the CGN “DNA,” this undertaking requires a thoughtful
review and dialogue with faculty. As educators, we pride ourselves
on being future-oriented and innovative in our collective efforts to
prepare the nurse leaders of the future. The call to action in the
2010 Institute of Medicine report “The Future of Nursing,”
addresses nursing’s need to advance its agenda to increase
Karen Hanford, EdD, MSN, FNP
visibility and leadership, and to actively participate in
transforming health care.
Our graduates continue to be highly sought-after in the
marketplace, and despite the downturn in the economy, our
applications continue to be robust.
In addition, in recent months, CGN has obtained more than
$300,000 in grant funding to support a new faculty position,
student scholarships, and infrastructure improvements for
classrooms. These additional resources will help the College
incorporate synchronous learning for distance students and
advance interprofessional opportunities for our students.
