White Coat Ceremony
On Saturday, August 10, 2019, Western University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy welcomed 130 students into the class
of 2023 at a White Coat ceremony held at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel in, Pomona, California. Dr. Ken Thai, incoming President of
CPhA gave the keynote address to the students and their families. Dr. Thai began his address with a big congratulations to the
WesternU School of Pharmacy, Dean Robinson, the faculty, students and parents.
Some key points of his address to the students included: 1) Remember this “Moment.” Take mental snapshots of those around you
today. Look left, right, front and back. You may not remember what was said today or even who spoke, but you will definitely
remember those that will take on this journey with you the next four years. 2) Become an active advocate for Pharmacy. Whether
you have a liking or not for politics, we must acknowledge that we all play a part in protecting and safeguarding the future of our
profession. Never stand on the sidelines waiting for someone to dictate or change your future. Be an active participant of that
change and join the rest of your colleagues. 3) Plug into the CPhA-ASP chapter, or any professional organization, or join all of
them and let them help you navigate through this journey.
“I look forward to meeting all of you and serving as a witness to your growth and development as the future leaders of our
profession!” said Dr. Thai.
